The design approach of the KODA robot dog was to make it usable for photographic and film documentation, as a mobile surveillance camera, as a navigation aid for the visually impaired and as a companion for people who are not allowed to keep a pet. Its streamlined, smooth surface exudes friendliness, making the device easy to integrate into home environments. The on/off bu-tton is concealed yet easily accessible at the back. The system for the simultaneous positioning and mapping of the surroundings is integrated into the front of the head along with a torch. The head is surrounded by a me-tal band that enhances KODA’s dynamic appearance.
